Netherlands: Two vehicles hit by a loosen truck wheel

April 2012

Two vehicles came to a stand still on the highway A27 from Utrecht to Gorinchem after being hit by a loosen truck wheel. Gladly, the vehicles only suffered some damages and the road authorities managed to clear the road shortly after.

USA: Bus loses wheels and caused road accident

March 2012

A bus carrying 25 passengers lost its wheels on road and caused two cars to collide as they tried to avoid the debris from the rolling wheels.

A heavy-duty truck loses two of its rear wheels, and one of the wheels injured a female pedestrian who was walking on the pavement.

Belgium: Tractor driver injured from detached wheel

November 2011

In Mechelen-Bovelingen, Belgium, a tractor driver lost control of his vehicle and got seriously injured after the tractor landed on the roadside. The accident was caused by wheel detachment. Rescued by the fire deparment, the driver was immediately transported to hospital.

USA: Detached tire caused death of a 65 year-old man

August 2011

A wheel came off a tractor-trailer truck and flew across the road median to hit through the windshield of a box van. A 65 year-old passenger was struck by the loose wheel and later died from massive head trauma at University Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.

A 70 years old cyclist was killed right on the spot by a flying wheel that broke loose from a truck that was moving at a fast speed.

Australia: Wheels of a school bus came off

August 2011

Two rear left wheels of a bus filled with 80 high school students flew off in the middle of the road. One of the wheels flew across oncoming traffic on the other side of the road, while the other one rolled into a nearby dam. Fortunately, no one was injured as the driver managed to bring the vehicle to a safe stop.

Surveillance camera captured a wheel  flying off an MTA bus. Luckily the vehicle didn't have any passengers onboard and no one was injured.

Sweden: Road worker injured by detached truck wheel

July 2011

A road worker suffered moderate injuries after a wheel came off a truck and hit him when he was putting up road signs on a highway north od Skellefteå. The man was immediately hospitalized while the police was restoring traffic.

Germany: Rear-end collision caused by wheel detachment

June 2011

A truck driver got off to a bad start of the weekend when his trailer lost a wheel on a Friday afternoon in southern Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The wheel detachment forced the cars driving from the opposite side to emergency-brake which in the end led to rear-end collision. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured.

Germany: Wheel loss leads to oil spill and stops traffic

June 2011

Not only was the truck severely damaged but also the tank was ripped open and oil spilled onto the road after a truck lost two wheels on a highway in south-east Germany. It took nearly four hours for the Fire Department and emergency services to clean the oil spill and restore the traffic.

Germany: An accident caused by wheel loss

June 2011

Injuries, stopped traffic and damages amounting to € 10,000 were the result of an accident which occurred on B77 highway in northern Germany. The accident was caused by a wheel coming loose from a truck and hitting a car on the same lane. The driver and the passenger of the car suffered minor injuries.

Sweden: Lost truck wheel destroyed caravan

June 2011

A trailer lost one of its wheels while driving by the Swedish town of Skara. The wheel crashed into two caravans, one of which was almost completely destroyed. Both caravans were left in a parking lot outside the town. Luckily there were no personal injuries.

A 23-year-old man is dead after the truck he was driving was struck by a tire that fell off a school bus in Racine County, Milwaukee.

Sweden: Gothenburg city bus lost wheel in morning traffic

March 2011

City bus number 89 in Gothenburg got off to a bad start of the week, when suddenly loosing its left rear wheel while driving out of a bus stop in the city suburbs, during heavy Monday morning traffic. Luckily the speed was very low, and there were no injuries to passengers, says Bengt Karlsson, local manager of at transport company Veolia, which operates the city busses. Carelessness when tightening the wheel nuts is believed to have caused the problem.

Sweden: School taxi hit by lost wheel

March 2011

A taxi bringing four children to school in the village of Ljustorp, close to Sundsvall, met a timber truck on the road. What they did not know was that two of the wheels of the truck had fell off just half a minute ago. Suddenly, the front of the taxi was hit hard by one of the wheels. The driver had not chance of even seeing what hit the car, let alone manoeuvring away from it. The children and the driver were all chocked by the accident, but were extremely luck not to have been injured physically.

The Netherlands: Construction worker hit by wheel

December 2010

Eyewitnesses report that one of the wheels suddenly came off a lorry on the A10 highway outside Amsterdam. The wheel rolled of in high speed, and hit a road construction worker in the back.  His condition was stable, but he had to be taken by ambulance to a hospital.
